THE JOURNEY BEGINS...

So I mentioned in my 2025 end of year round-up that I would be beginning my self-publishing journey in the new year, with 'The Worth of Scars' being released in the second half of 2026. That journey has indeed begun, starting with a quick re-vamp of my website, a return to social media (or, in the case of Instagram and Bluesky, starting up there) and an announcement of sorts on all those platforms. If, somehow, you have not come from one of those sites, or only follow me on one but not the others, go give me a follow at @gfarrellwriter on Twitter, @gfarrellauthor.bsky.social on Bluesky, @gfarrellauthor on Facebook, or @gfarrellauthor on Instagram. It's hugely appreciated!
Also hugely appreciated are the kind messages and comments I've received since announcing my plans for 'The Worth of Scars'. Every gesture, whether a 'like' or a comment or even a 'share' means a huge amount, so even if I've not had time or have forgotten to let you know directly, know I'm genuinely grateful. As I move towards publishing, every bit of online engagement will help, so thank you again and please keep it up.
Behind the scenes, lots more is going on. The book is being edited; I'm working with a very talented artist on ideas for the cover; I'm doing boring but necessary things like purchasing ISBNs and looking into categories and keywords and metadata and whatnot; and I'm badgering as many people for as much advice on a wide range of topics relating to publishing as I can. Apologies to those who have been badgered already (apologies, too, as that sounds like it should be rude).
I'm still very much in the 'isn't this all very exciting?' stage of self-publishing, and have resolved to enjoy it while I can. I have been repeatedly warned that this will very quickly turn into the 'this is getting old' stage, before finally becoming the 'I'd rather bash my head repeatedly against a wall than look at my own book again' endpoint. I'll make sure to keep you all (the zero people that read this, as of now) updated with my progress on that rather unpleasant mental rollercoaster as I move forward, and will also try to give more details about the book, the process and its release as soon as I can, too.
Cheers,
Gabe
